Facebook rules!
A while back I mentioned that I signed up for Facebook, a social network similar in concept to MySpace and Ning.
What I’ve found so far is that Facebook rules! If you haven’t joined, you really should. There is a huge potential for marketing your business on Facebook too.
So far I’ve befriended many of my former college acquaintances, and many of my high school folks. I’ve even found some old friend from elementary school.
My next “friending” project came about because I love games. There are several Facebook games that allow you to make new “friends,” and I set my privacy settings so they can only see what I allow.
But the real potential is in contacting your friends to let them know about your business. One friend of mine makes jewelry, and she created a group for her company. Every so often she sends out sales and announcements. While I’m not into jewelry, I know exactly where to go when I’m in the market.
Other’s mention their websites in their status, or have a “mirror blog” on their profile page so friends can see what you wrote in your blog.
Finally, I’m beginning to befriend people in my local area, which should come in handy for job searching and prospect building.
Are you using Facebook? Have you used it as a marketing tool? Look me up on Facebook and maybe we can chat…just be sure to let me know how you found me, because I don’t accept friends with no explanation.

Do you do twitter as well?
Yeah, sort of. I just started, and I couldn’t think of anything to Twitter about just yet. I don’t get it…it seems just like Facebook’s status, only not as interactive. Have you?
Facebook has a heck of a lot of people, but if you add people like me as friend, we’ll end up poking you all the time and defacing your wall with graffiti.
If you’re trying to build connections online, then you want to use LinkedIn and twitter.
facebook is like drugs , it spreads easy and you become a great addict.. but it’s pretty cool

I’ve been resisting signing up for Facebook, since quite a lot of people I know are egging me on, telling me to start using the service. Still, I suppose it’s inevitable. I read somewhere that some kids don’t send email anymore. They keep in touch through Facebook.

I have a MySpace page for my blog, but haven’t had to much success gaining readers with it. Maybe I will try Facebook?

I am on linkedin and find it a good business source. The problem with facebook is that it gets muckied up with the non-business stuff that you may not want to be defined by.
I agree with the previous commenter. Facebook does seem to be cluttered with lots of silliness. More people want to waste my time than befriend me.

About six months ago I used FaceBook with my real name and after a month or so I found that I’m on the first page in google for “my name”. I don’t want everybody to see my friends and stuff so I deleted that account. But could be good for marketing I agree..

I got account with facebook but not really active with it. Your post make me return back to this website.
If you are into social media marketing you should definitely get involved with Facebook and Myspace. These two have millions of members.

hi Theda,
Last year I got started blogging, and while I have a LOT to learn still, this year I plan to tackle social marketing/networking. I’m not sure where to start, but I’ve to all year.
Sounds like I should check out Facebook though! Thanks, and Happy New Year!
Good to see a new post… it’s been a little while.

I used to be on facebook all the time and it’s great. Made some good friends on there and found old friends from school.
I love facebook too. I have been using it for about two years. I have reconnected with a lot of old friends, and I help market my business through the site. I also like their safety and privacy rules with facebook, makes it nice.
I just started, and I couldn’t think of anything to Twitter about just yet. I don’t get it…

Facebook is one of the most populated and most popular social sites on the face of the Internet these days. Yes, my kids are avid users of the site–unlike their mom. Well, I don’t have to because they also manage my account there. They even promote our family business to their multitude friends. Whatta site!
I’m big on myspace and have started twitter but there’s so many social networking sites you can spend more time on there than actually building your business’ own content.

Yeah, you’re so right about this. Facebook still rocks! I’ve been trying other social network such as Tagged, Friendster and several others yet facebook is still the leader when it comes to social networking. This days, facebook has grown so much and its getting bigger and bigger each year.
I love facebook! I used it to add most of my friends from highschool, middle school and elementary school, using the yearbook and searching for their names. I really think facebook is alot more powerful than twitter.

I have joined facebook for about 2 years ago and really I even found my elementary school friends there, they are living in different countries but it was glad to find them again. Of course facebook gets bit addictive because there are lot of applications you can use. You can really kill your time on facebook if you want to..Yes Facebook RULES..
friendster is good too
facebook is a good social site,,its doing a great job to bring people closer.
Facebook is brilliant!! I use other social networking sites as well, but I was told to use facebook becaue it´s a lot better. I think it depends which country you´re in, as to which social networking site you use. I know “Bebo” is quite popular in some places, but my friends here hadn´t heard of it!! Facebook is now my networking site of choice and I think I´ll be a member for a long time time to come!

Great idea! I’ve heard about the marketing potential of social networking but never really investigated the topic enough to know what it’s really about. Thanks for opening my eyes !
yes, facebook rules. I found my old friends through facebook.

I’ve had some huge success on Facebook personally. It’s a great medium for meeting people and networking. But you can’t approach it with an advertising mindset. It’s just like networking offline… but its… online. You wouldn’t shove a business card in the hands of the same person every week of the year. Would you?
Do you really think that presenting your business in a facebook does it any good ? There is a substantial possibility of account erase if you spam invitations. Also, people don’t join groups so massively as they used to…
I’ve been thinking of signing up for Facebook. I’ve been hooked in the social networking thing in the past through Friendster but I hear Facebook is better. I don’t want to get addicted again so still having second thoughts.
Facebook is good, but I think twitter would be better for professional networking.
hmm facebook is very good and excellent place to do marketing. Some company look employee in facebook ^^
i like facebook too but some privacy manners of them, make me feel a little uncomfortable!
well i do have facebook. i agree as its a good place to do marketing. social network is a best way for this. cheap and reliable.
