In my quest to make freelance writing work for my family, I joined a freelance writers’ group on Yahoo. It’s a great resource for anyone wanting support and advice for their commercial writing business.
One of the members, Danny Thompson, started a Yahoo Group to help freelance writers survive. It’s completely free, it has tons of resources in the Files section, and it sends you daily reminders for your business. He acknowledges that it may not fit your particular situation perfectly, but there are definitely gems for any business owner.

Well fed writers? You gotta be kidding me. Maybe the group should start posting each member’s weight every month, and see if the group is helping them add any pounds, if not dollars…And I can’t think of anything more funny than that, so you’ll have to make do with that for your daily laugh.
I used to be freelance writer, but that was the toughest period of my life. I made a change, and it was for the better. Instead of writing 10 articles I learned how to create a site and some SEO.
Now I write as much as before, but I get more for my efforts. Most of articles I write now are on MY sites and making money for ME only. I recommend all freelance writers to try that, they will see some better days.

Well, looks like I’m a little late to this post…but thanks for the recommendation, Theda!
Being a freelance copywriter isn’t for everyone. And it does take a lot of work on the front end to really start seeing results. Of course, if you’re going after the “10 SEO article” gigs, then you’re going to have a tough time of it.
However, there are plenty of companies out there who need solid copy and are willing to pay well for it. That said, there’s nothing wrong with writing copy for your own benefit. I think a lot of copywriters do that to supplement their own income, as well. But in my book, $500 for a gig that takes about three and a half hours is tough to beat, I don’t care how your adsense is pulling clicks.
