Is your heart healthy?

As we all know, having health insurance is a lifesaver.

As business owners, it’s very important not to neglect your own health by omitting health insurance. Being without insurance is a major gamble. Do something to get it, even if it means going back to a ‘day job’ so you can save money toward an individual plan (while getting the company’s group plan).

Even though I am insured, lately I’ve been overlooking my own health because I’ve been “too busy.” But I found this website, Inside Cardiac Arrest, that reminded me I really need to get checked out.

Years ago I started having heart palpitations, but my doctor told me it was nothing. So I’ve left it alone for almost 10 years. All that’s happened is I’ve gotten older, and my Irregular Heartbeat issues are even scarier now. If I wind up having a heart attack while my daughter is home, she won’t be able to help, and worse, I won’t be able to help her.

So it’s time for me to get a second opinion. Past time.

Is your heart healthy? Are you at risk for cardiac arrest? Insured or not, your health is important to someone.

Right you are. Scary, though. You should easily be able to find a gig with a health management company, drumming up hysteria bout impending palpitations. Heck, someone reads your column, they’ll start having palpitations even if they have a perfectly healthy heart.

A close reletive of mine recently suffered a heart attack… I found that going on a CPR course to learn about what to do if someone has a heart attack really helped lower my anxiety about the situation.

  4. So here’s my question…if you’re healthy are you better off putting your money into a savings account with higher interest (say an online one like ING) or sending money off to an Insurance company just “in case” something bad happens?

To me, if you’re healthy and don’t have major medical needs (mostly younger folks I admit) why not save up and earn interest? I don’t see why health insurance is such an all important thing for every person out there.

Granted…it’s a more important thing as people get older and more responsibility (like kids). But the risk/reward benefit (In my mind at least) of saving up and earning interest is better than “wasting” it on insurance until really needed.

But anyway…yes cardiac health is super important and something that I’ve completely ignored. *sigh* But I am eating better lately. :)

  5. I think my heart is fine. But, this post has given me the creeps. I think most of the time most of just refuse to check and that leads to so many problems. So, off for checkup I go.

Inside Cardiac Arrest, is a great website. I have learned a lot from that website. You have raised a serious issue here. I hope everyone takes heed.

  7. heart disease runs in my family. my dad also had an irregular heart beat and suffered a stroke.

drinking red wine, about a glass a day can prevent clotting. also eat foods rich in antioxidants such as blueberries.

  8. Very useful article. I know many people who dismiss their ailments as though they were knowing, only later finding out that it has grown too troublesome for them to control. Having health insurance is indeed a lifesaver.
