This is such a great post, and so very true. It is our blogs, and we should be able to make a little money if we want to. When Google knocked my blog down, I still continued to blog. I'm not going to let them stop me. Thanks for sharing.

The original thinking from Google was that paid reviews (and purchased links) lowered the quality of the sites that had them and were, inherently, a lower quality link. They have a point on both cases, but clearly they overdid it since lots of high quality sites feature a reasonable level of paid links or one form or another. As a "search consumer" I would take the results from a site that had no paid links as worth more than links that were bought and paid for, but Google has to remember that search consumers would also take results from a site with no advertising as worth more than results from a Google Adsense publisher. Bottom line, they're probably right to give a small penalty, but the great Page Rank Slam of 2007 was a clear overreaction and they're correcting it.

<em>Tom Hanna's last blog post..<a href='http://www.tom-hanna.org/?p=1442'>One hell of a deal</a></em>

meh.. I don't think google pagerank really helped me in making more money. More google search hits to my site does help, though.

HI I also write for PPP. On my old blog when I started it was a PR4 when google came around I was dropped to a zero. Now I moved my blog to my own domain and I am waiting to have a PR. I do have a lot of regular content on there because more often than not, I don't have any work for that blog.

Nope, it's mo mistake, and your PR is here to stay. I frequent a lotta blogs facing the same problem, and most of them got their PR back, either PR2 or PR3.

What happened, I guess, is that Google slammed everyone who was doing paid reviews, and then they manually went through all the blogs and gave back the PR to blogs which actually have some original content, as opposed to just a pile of paid reviews. So if I were you, I'd keep a ratio of at least 3 non-paid posts to one paid review, just in case.
