As I was saying: Using quotes and proverbs to enhance your writing

Writers often use famous quotes, sayings and proverbs in their writing. Bloggers are no exception, or at least we shouldn’t be. It’s a great way to add some extra flavor to your blog or article. Just-Quotes.com is a good way to do just that.

Perhaps you’re looking for a really cool saying or proverb by a specific author. This site has a feature that allows you to search by the author’s name. If you have a certain category in mind, you can search for quotes in subjects like business, fear, and last words.

One really nice feature is the ability to add random quotes directly to your blog or website, giving your readers new inspiration whenever they visit. Just-Quote has over 70,000 quotes and proverbs. If you’re a Latin buff, there are thousands of Latin Quotes, Latin Phrases and Mottos too, and a Latin dictionary with English translations.

As a source of inspiration for yourself, you can get daily quotes emailed to you daily, for free. When special days like birthdays, anniversaries, Valentine’s Day, or other major holidays roll around, you can be prepared to express your love with Famous Love Quotes, Latin Love Quotes, and more.

Clueless about all the Internet jargon and different acronyms? The site even has lists of common abbreviations, legal and medical terms, and email jargon. I think Just-Quotes is a really useful resource, and I will definitely be using it in my writing.

Nice quotes. I can’t resist reading famous quotes whenever I bump into a site. So the past 20 minutes I spent on reading stuff like ‘denial isn’t just a river in Egypt’ is totally your fault. You owe me 20 minutes. :)

Personally speaking, what I do when I need a quote or a title is go to amazon and start browsing books for some great title names. You’ll be amazed at how many great titles for blog posts and articles I have mooched off amazon…

Thanks for dropping by. You know you enjoyed those 20 minutes :). I hadn’t considered using quotes until that site, but I’ll be looking into it now. Thanks for the tip about finding more.

What a great tool! I’ve always been a fan of literary allusion, whether it’s quotes or another form. I don’t get that much opportunity as a photographer to use them - I like quoting something profound, seemingly larger than life, definitely more meaningful than whatever specific thing I’m talking about. I managed to work the ending to Gatsby into a recent blog post, but that’s more the exception than the rule…

Still, a ‘refresher course’ might inspire me to find more opportunities.

  4. Using quotes is definitely marketing 101. Every marketing class I’ve ever had has talked about how much more convincing writing is when there is a quote!

  5. Oh, I love those quotes sites. Always a great source of inspiration. I especially enjoy the once from Ancient Greece and China. You have to figure if some thing’s been passed on for that long, there must be something to it.

I also agree with the first commentor … if it hadn’t been pointed out, I would have never known this was a sponsored post. :)

  8. Hey, that is a good tip as long as those sayings come natural and match your writing style. You can get thousand of old sayings at English sayings and proverbs but I must repeat myself, use them with caution.
