I'm curious as to how you're doing now. My website is almost a year old and I've broken even with the cost of running it. That amounts to $400 in year one.

It's not so much that a person is a blogger. One has to have a skill or deep knowledge that people want to purchase. Not that you do not. I don't know you.

However, let me give you an example.

A friend of mine has over 100,000 unique visits to his site every month.

His total income per month from advertising on that blog is $200.

He has only his opinions to share on that blog. Everyone who visits his blog has opinions as well.

The problem is that the opinions shared are the same as millions of others have. No one is willing to pay my friend for those opinions.

On the other hand, another person, an acquaintance, has only about 9,000 unique visits per month to his site. But, this fellow is a well known golfer and teacher. The people who visit his site pay him for golf tips, and purchase things like golf equipment from him.

It's a totally different situation. They are both bloggers, but one fellow has spent a lifetime developing deep knowledge and skill that people will pay for.

The other person just has a college degree and his opinions which are not well researched.

No one is going to pay him for that.

In addition, tens of thousands of bloggers with just their sameo sameo opinions are attempting to sell their expertise, which is so common no one is going to pay them.

The tragedy is that they are surprised that others do not view them as special.

They are special as human beings. But, compared to other human beings not so much.

I found the best thing to my friend's birthday… It's really hard to find cool and still unique.
So today I saw this thing from ZTARLET on facebook where you can name a real star in heaven and have the certificate and a teddy bear sent to you and pay it by a single SMS. So awesome :)

Good luck with your goals. I'd be happy with 2k a year from my blog. Of course, its not the reason I started blogging so any money is just gravy.

If you are at breakeven or better at 6 months then your blog can definitely become genuinely profitable. In your case your blog should do well long term because you have good content.

Hi Amanda and Dina!

Thanks for dropping by and leaving comments (or footprints, as Dina calls them). Amanda, thanks for the encouragement, as well as the reality check that it'll take a lot of work. Do I have to do anything special to get page rank?

And Dina, I don't know much about the blog game, but it seems to be interesting. I wouldn't 'play,' but having another income stream that isn't too much work sounds good.

Good luck to us all!

Hey, Theda!

Thanks for coming over and leaving your footprint on my blog. :) You know what? I make zero advertising dollars with my blog and I suspect it's because I don't play the blog game. Not sure if I have the energy for this plus what I already do.

But it's definitely great to see you stepping up to the challenge! Maybe if I start hanging around here I can learn something new.

Rock on!

you will make tons more money once you have a higher alexa rank, your site should have a pr within the next 3 months its usually every 3-4 months google updates their page rank.

I have made like 265 dollars in 11 days b/c of my two blogs (not including money from my domain registration company, webhosting company and blog consulting) but its a lot of hard work on my other site theblogworld.net i explain the places i joined you might like it if you're goal is to make that kind of money, and doing virtual assisting definitely helps!
